BES Data Services & Ting Insights on The Big Stage
Esri’s President, Jack Dangermond, opened the 2026 Esri User Conference (UC) with a review of what is changing in the geospatial world. During the Plenary, one of the images on the utilities’ showcase was Bent Ear Solutions’ (BES) outage dashboard, incorporating our power outage data feed powered by Ting Insights. Having the image presented to thousands of GIS professionals was a proud moment for BES and strengthened our resolve to provide the best-quality real-time data for the GIS community, to improve situational awareness, and to provide timely and accurate decision support.
“Being an Esri Gold Partner means BES is building alongside the platform that reaches nearly every state, county, and industry we serve. As Doug Eades, Information Technology Supervisor and GIS Lead at Kentucky Emergency Management, said, ‘GIS is a common language’ for these agencies. Our work with Whisker Labs and Esri provides a new geospatial capability for power outage data: Authoritative data delivered as a streamlined feature layer. We’re proud to be building our Data Services program for this future.”
Over the course of the UC and during pre-conference seminars, we heard a consistent theme: practitioners want ground truth, at operational speed, delivered straight into the tools they already use. These organizations, many of which operate our critical infrastructure and the agencies that respond to disasters, are excited about the opportunity and the increased efficiencies that improve their decision-making.
The BES power outage data feed, powered by Ting Insights, aligns directly with that shift. The data comes from over 1.3 million sensors, with 94% of U.S. homes within a mile of one, and is being processed every second. This gives the public safety community and critical infrastructure operators a live view of not only where the grid is impacted, but who and what are impacted. It is the critical answer to the “So What” question – what the outage actually means. The power outage data, delivered as an ArcGIS feature layer, seamlessly integrates with the tools users already have and is overlaid with vulnerability indices, census data, critical infrastructure locations, and medical registries — turning a live outage picture into evidence-based response. This is a separate category of information from what’s traditionally available on public-facing outage websites. These websites often have significant lag time and are reported differently by individual utilities, leading to misinterpretation of the data. The Whisker Labs Ting data provided by BES is nationwide and delivered in a stable, reliable, location-specific format you can count on when minutes matter.
The power outage data is the first authoritative feed in a growing BES Data Services catalog, sourced from our partner network. The broader signal from UC this year is that geospatial data services are becoming an essential component of accurate data-driven decision-making. Not maps of data, but real-time quality information flowing into the systems that organizations and agencies already use. Bent Ear Solutions is committed to providing real-time, mission-critical geospatial data services that will continue to improve how state and local governments, utilities, and critical infrastructure operators respond to disruptions, emergencies, and disasters, regardless of scale.
